This article will guide you on the Preparation Strategy for the NIFT Entrance Exam 2022-23. The exam is mainly divided into two Parts.
Theory and
Practical
1. THEORY consists of further categories like Creative Ability Test CAT & General Ability Test GAT.
2. PRACTICAL consists of a SITUATION TEST.
The CAT and GAT are held on the same day around January, and the Situation test is held around April or May.
Talking about CAT & GAT
CAT stands for Creative Ability Test, which has mainly Drawing based questions.
GAT stands for General Ability Test, which is Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
CAT holds 50% of the total weightage, consisting of 3 principal questions, having a duration of 3 hours.

Whereas GAT holds 30% of the total weightage, consisting of 100 multiple choice questions with a duration of 2 hours.
Categories:
- Quantitative ability test (includes basic mathematics)
- Communication ability test (English)
- English comprehension test
- Analytical ability test (logical reasoning) - General knowledge + Current affairs
Situation test holds 20% of the total weightage, including a practical exam; tasks being such as Designing a prototype or a 3D model.
Judgment criteria's are categorized as below:
- Space visualization
- Creative use of materials - Color scheme
- Construction skill
About NIFT Entrance
National Institute of Fashion Technology NIFT was established in 1986 and is known for disseminating knowledge related to the Fashion Technology field among students. It is an autonomous government institute. The Institute has been ranked 1 for Fashion Design by The Week 2020 and India Today 2020 rankings. NIFT offers BDes, MFM, MFT, and MDes in various specializations. It also offers various continuing education programs. In total, NIFT has 16 campuses spread all across the country.
NIFT cut-off is released separately for each category. The authority is also providing the relaxation in cut-offs for reserved categories.
Cut off is prepared on the basis of various factors such as previous year cut off, marking scheme, the difficulty level of exam, the number of candidates appeared in the exam, etc. So, it is necessary to score the cut-off marks to get admission to NIFT and its affiliated campuses.

National Institute of Fashion Technology was founded in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. it's emerged because the premier Institute of Design, Management and Technology, developing professionals for taking over leadership positions in rag trade within the emerging global scenario. NIFT has been granted statutory status under the act of Parliament of India in 2006, empowering the Institute to award degrees and other academic distinctions.
Eligibility Criteria For Bachelor Programmes UG Design :
Maximum Age: 23 years as on 1st October, 2022. The upper ordinance are relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for the candidates of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribe/ Differently Abled Person (PHP) subject to following qualifications:
Eligibility for Bachelor Programmes – Design – B.Des.
(Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication)
The +2 level examination within the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Examination.
NIFT Entrance Exam 2022 - 2023 is a three-tiered process, wherein, aspirants need to give CAT (Creative Ability Test), GAT (General Ability Test) followed by the Situation Test.

As per the shortlisting criteria mentioned by NIFT, the weightage given to CAT and GAT exams is 50% and 30% respectively and NIFT Situation Test carries 20% weightage.
Last year NIFT Situation Test was not conducted because of Covid 19 pandemic.
In NIFT Situation Test 2022, candidates have to appear for a practical examination at their nearest NIFT centre. At the exam centre, candidates are provided with a set of materials and they need to make 3D models using these materials to answer the questions put to them. After making the model, aspirants need to accompany the same with a write-up explaining the model construction.
