All about NID

All about NID, or National Institutes of Design, are self-governing public design colleges spread across India. Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Bangalore (Karnataka), Kurukshetra (Haryana), Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh), Jorhat (Assam), and Bhopal (MP) all have NIDs (Madhya Pradesh). The institutes are run by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), which is part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, which is part of the Ministry of Science and Technology, has recognised NIDs as a scientific and industrial design research organisation.

  • NID entrance exams
    • Admission in NID is done through a national level entrance exam conducted by the authorities of NID. The performance of an aspirant in the NID Entrance Exam determines admission to all of the courses offered at NID. NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains are the two stages of the admissions procedure.
    • The NID DAT Prelims is a written entrance exam for admission to the BDes, GDPD, and MDes programmes. Candidates who pass this phase of admission are entitled to take the NID DAT Main, which includes a Studio Test and a Personal Interview round. The final NID result is calculated by weighting the candidate’s score in the NID DAT Prelims by 30% and the NID DAT Mains by 70%.
    • The National Institute of Design’s DAT is a national-level admission test for several B.Des/ GDPD and M.Des courses. NID Ahmedabad, NID Gujarat, NID Bangalore, NID Kurukshetra, and NID Vijayawada are among the top design colleges that accept it.
