NIFT Admission Process

• Entrance exam
  
  • The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) holds an entrance exam to select candidates for admission to its design programmes, which include Bachelor of Design (BDes), Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTech), Master of Design (MDes), Master of Fashion Management (MFM), and Master of Fashion Technology (MFTech) (MFTech). NIFT is a pioneer in the field of fashion education, with its headquarters in New Delhi. NIFT has campuses in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna, Shillong, Raebareli, Srinagar, and Panchkula, in addition to its headquarters in New Delhi.
  • The format of the NIFT entrance test for BDes and MDes programme admissions is three-tiered. Candidates must first take the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT) as part of the NIFT entrance test 2022 for BDes and MDes admission (GAT).

• Eligibility criteria
  • Bachelors in design: To be eligible to take the NIFT admission exam in 2022, candidates must have finished their Class 12 with passing grades from a recognised board. For NIFT admission in 2022, applicants must be under the age of 23. 
  • Bachelors in fashion technology: Aspirants must have finished their Class 12 education from a recognised board, with courses such as physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Candidates must have passed their Class 12 test with flying colours.
  • Masters in design: Candidates must have earned their undergraduate degree from a university-approved institution. There are no age restrictions for entry to the MDes programme at NIFT.
  • Masters in fashion technology: To be eligible for MFTech admissions, applicants must have completed a BFTech course as an undergraduate. There are no age restrictions for NIFT entry to the MFTech programme.

• Examination
  • In order to clear the entrance, a candidate must fall in the required category of cut-off’s that is decided by each branch of NIFT. The highest cut-off for entrance exam’s score is set by NIFT Delhi as it is one of the oldest branches that was established for the institution. Candidates must follow the syllabus set for the examination and improve their sketching skills as it is one of the important criteria for enrollment in the institution.

• Consultation
  • After the results are announced for the entrance exams, there are several rounds of consultation wherein each candidate is assigned seats in different branches according to their scores. These scores decide which part of the country you will be allotted for completing your education in designing. Due to the increasing number of applicants, NIFT has opened a few new branches to accommodate more candidates.

These are the steps followed by NIFT for admissions. A candidate must keep track of application forms and consultation periods in order to get selected in their chosen branches.
