Photography

Photography is the art, science, and practice of capturing and preserving images by recording light, either electronically with an image sensor or chemically with a light-sensitive material like photographic film. It has a wide range of applications in research, manufacturing (e.g., photolithography), and business, in addition to its more immediate applications in art, film and video production, leisure activities, hobbies, and mass communication.

During a timed exposure, a lens is typically employed to focus the light reflected or transmitted from objects into a true image on the light-sensitive surface inside the camera. An electronic image sensor generates an electrical charge at each pixel, which is processed electronically and saved in a digital image file for further display or processing. With photographic emulsion, the outcome is an invisible latent image that is chemically “developed” into a visible image, either negative or positive, depending on the purpose of the photographic material and the technique of processing. By employing an enlarger or contact printing, a negative picture on the film is historically used to photographically create a positive image on a paper foundation, known as a print.

Career options and job prospects

Photography is a rapidly growing sector with a wide range of job and business prospects. Photographers are hired by a variety of media and news organizations to post on various news channels, newspapers, magazines, and websites. Aside from that, there is always a need for aesthetic photographers who can capture landscapes, wildlife, and other similar subjects.

Candidates can also open their own private photography studios to provide portrait photography and portfolio creation for potential clientele. Following are some of the most common careers that applicants can pursue after completing photography courses:

  • Photo Journalists
  • Fashion & Advertising Photographers
  • Wildlife Photographers
  • Portrait Photographers
  • Feature Photographers
  • Fine Art Photographers
  • Forensic Photographers
  • Freelancing
  • Scientific Photographers
  • Event Photographer

One of the most varied fields in the arts is photography. Photography is used in a variety of sectors, including fashion, journalism, entertainment, and science. News agencies, electronic media, modeling agencies, wildlife photography, and other businesses all demand skilled photographers.
Candidates who take photography classes learn how to use various camera parts, how to work with light while shooting images, and how to take candid shots. Studio lighting, portrait photography, and portfolio design are some of the other topics covered in the program.
